My Favourite Things is a monthly link up that Raisa and I host. Usually, submissions are open for only a week, but hey, we’re feeling a little bit more adventurous and we’re going to have the submissions open for two weeks. Whooo! Come join us and tell your friends!
July, while it was happening, felt like it was dragging on for forever. But now that it’s done, I’m here struggling to remember what I did and what I liked. Meep.
I am definitely one of those people who love binge doing something. I will binge read a book series involving siblings and cousins if the author has it available and if the author is a good writer. I do the same with music. I still listen to Hilary Duff’s album in one go on some days just because.
So, I binge watched Major Crimes. Major Crimes is a police procedural show about the LAPD Major Crimes division. Apparently, this is a spin off of The Closer which I never watched and I was never really interested in it. Anyway, this show has everything that I like: diversity, humour, smart handling of controversial topics (ie. police stereotyping), interesting characters, and the best: no vigilante shit.
The main character, Captain Sharon Rayder, was previously from Internal Affairs. If you’ve watched a decent amount of cop shows, you’ll know that they’re people who are stuck up and follow all the rules. Sharon does follow all the rules. It’s really interesting to watch.
They do tend to go heavy on the mental manipulation on some episodes, but eh, it can’t be too perfect, right?
This is my current moisturizer since my Origins Gin-Zing ran out and I really like this. This is practically the cheaper option to that and it feels so good. I get really happy whenever I slather this all over my face. This moisturize does a good job on moisturizing my face. It has a light consistency which is good if your skin is a bit oily/normal. My face, during the summer, is more normal than dry so it works well.
And, on a hot summer’s day, it feels really great. I keep it on a dark shelf by my bed and the electric fan hits it so it cools it down. It also smells great, in my opinion. (It has a fragrance, The Body Shop has other creams for sensitive skin without fragrance.)
Coconut Bliss Dark Chocolate Ice Cream + Nature’s Path Love Crunch in Dark Chocolate and Red Berries
I love this combination. I don’t think I’ve ever finished a Coconut Bliss ice cream that fast and not regretted it. Coconut Bliss retails for between CAD 7.99 to CAD 10.00 and it’s a ridiculous price for a pint of ice cream. But I pay it because I am very sensitive to dairy products, and I love ice cream. So, when I finished the ice cream in two days I was content. Why? I felt like I found my ultimate comfort food. Ice cream and granola. Yum.
Even the granola was expensive. Sigh.
I have a horrible eczema patch on my left wrist and it’s super itchy and is super dry. And I can’t keep scratching it so I’ve covered it up with a heavy duty band-aid. This cream really helps alleviate that itchy feeling though. I lather it on said eczema patch whenever it flares up and it soothes it immediately. Again, another expensive lotion but oh my god is it worth it. A coworker who had bad eczema as a kid recommended it to me, and I’m so glad I tried it.
So, a couple of favourites ago, I raved about Lush’s Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. Which is great and will be my favourite forever. But at CAD34/tub, I haven’t repurchased it. I, unfortunately, have not stumbled upon a rich billionaire who is immediately attracted to me and has offered to buy me all the things. (If this ever happens, I’ll hand him my student loan bill. I want to see this in a romance novel.) This in-shower body lotion isn’t as nourishing or luxurious, but it does the job quite well. It saves me time, especially when I’m running late but have to shower, in the morning.
I use the Nourishing one for very dry skin. Because, very dry skin is what I have. But they do have other options such as dry and for normal skin.
Also, this works as a great shaving oil! My legs feel so smooth <3
Maybelline The Rocket Mascara
I love this mascara. It’s comfortable to wear. It dries quickly but not too quickly. It also makes my lashes look great. I have stubborn lashes so I use the waterproof. I really have nothing else to stay about this mascara besides I love it. <3
(IDK why Maybelline’s website shows it with blue writing. My tube has pink writing and it says waterproof. Hmmm.)
So for the month of July, my classes were almost all theoretical. This means, 8 hours of lectures. Just sitting there, listening. My usual class scenario is 4 hours of coding with a teacher and then lab time. So it was a change.
I got bored and got back on Twitter. And oh man, I forgot how fun it can be.
This is #regencymensfitness which was started by one of fave authors, Tessa Dare, and I got to participate in it. It was so fun! And oh wow look at me joining in on a trending hashtag. I felt very in with social media haha.
Unfortunately, I think Twitter and I are done with our honeymoon period. I’m going to be learning PHP next for 12 straight days. Now I gotta work for this relationship. Sigh.
And those are my favourites for the month of July. Like usual, there’s a lot of beauty/body related stuff. I like makeup and lotions apparently. Was there a trend in your favourites this month? Don’t forget to share your faves with us!
