Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of My Favo(u)rite Things, a monthly linkup I co-host with my good buddy Raisa. Every first Tuesday of the month, we share what we liked for the month that just passed and bug our friends to do the same.
1. Into the Badlands
This is a new show from AMC that just started airing this month. I believe it’s 10/9 central every Sundays, but I manage to catch it on AMC at 7PM PST. It’s a dystopian show with feudalistic governments set centuries after the civilization we know has been destroyed. Firearms were banished and so people use brute force (and swords and other shiny, pointy things) to gain power and defend themselves.
(They also like to start their episodes with intense scenes like this.)
I really like this show but I’ve always liked shows with martial arts (and Into the Badlands has really good choreographed fight scenes) and a decent plot. I don’t think it’s heat its peak quite yet, but a lot has happened in the first 3 episodes and I want to know more.
Also I’m heavily invested in Sunny and Veil okay. I want them to have their happily ever after.
2. Rurouni Kenshin aka Samurai X
There’s a lot of sword fights in Into the Badlands and it’s probably one of the reasons why I decided to rewatch Rurouni Kenshin. It’s been around 10 years (or more maybe, wow) since I’ve last watched the show and I don’t think I was the biggest fan as a kid.
Which makes sense. Now that I’m an ~*~adult~*~, I’ve realized that I really did miss a lot of themes as a kid. I don’t think I ever understood why there were two factions in the Meiji Restoration, etc etc. Like, I don’t think I ever understood why Sanosuke was angry at Kenshin in the beginning, you know? I just took him as a villain that must be defeated but was suddenly incorporated into the group. (This seems to be a plot theme in a lot of animes.) I also took classes about Imperial Japan so that also probably helped? (I don’t even remember most of it lol oops.)
I probably would’ve enjoyed the show better if I had better internet access and knew about Wikipedia when I first watched it. But alas, I was living in dial-up land back then haha.
Also, Rurouni Kenshin has some seriously good ending and opening themes. Even their soundtrack is great. I’m trying to remember another anime with music I loved as much but it’s been awhile since I’ve watched anime before this.
3. My new mouse: Logitech M570
I’ve wanted an ergonomic mouse for a really long time now because the smaller, cuter mouses got uncomfortable after 8 hours of use. This mouse is a bit odd, with the whole not moving the actual mouse but the trackball instead thing, but it’s pretty comfortable. One of my friends calls it a reverse mouse haha.
It took a couple of hours to get used to how the mouse works and I haven’t had a problem with it in the past couple of weeks. Dragging is still a bit awkward but having one of the buttons programmed for drag lock helps a bit. I’ve yet to try it on games though so we’ll see how that is. You do have to clean the trackball every so often and I use a cloth that’s supposed to be for my watch lol.
According to some reviews on Amazon, this is good mouse for people with wrist issues but have to use a computer for work and stuff.
